I love art, all forms of it from traditional to fully digital creations.

Yes I like anime, as long as it's well drawn, and nude photography as long as it makes attempts to be artsy (see below).

The only forms of art I don't peruse are literature and video. I love to read, but I don't enjoy wasting time and unfortunately it's necessary to read something before knowing if it was worth the time spent. As for video, I don't even visit infamous youtube unless a link is sent my way by someone I know. In both cases there are treasures to be sure, but I feel they are floating in a vast sea of crap.

The same is true of the other forms of art of course, but glancing at thumbnails doesn't waste nearly so much time. For this reason I try to visit dA daily, and over time I have found some common themes here that I will share just to see if anyone feels like discussing.

Here's what you'll find on the front page (popular), or not far:

. pictures or drawings of foxes - without fail! i like foxes too, there's even a family living across the street from me, but I had no idea they were SO popular.

. well photographed beautiful women - no problems here! (although I don't care for nudes with fake boobs or models smoking)

. a naked man - occasionally artistic, more often "look at my wang".

. cam-whores - (i didn't make this term up) young, generally attractive girls who post naked (often hand-held phone-cam) pictures of themselves. there's no attempt at art, just a sad need for the approval of total strangers "nice tits!"

. cosplay photos - i can't help but feel that these kids are going to feel awfully silly some day..

. a picture of someone's eye - yawn.

. a picture of someone's cat - yaaaaaawn!

. fan art of the latest popular movie - gee if only there were another picture of that boy and his dragon!

. some form of homosexual anime fan art - wow i would never have thought there could be so much of this! does Japan know about this??

. OMG dA version <latest> sux! - every time dA updates its look there's a flood of whining. if it were up to these people we'd still be using the original version.

. stamps - obviously a very simple way to generate enormous hits: beat a dead horse ("I heart pizza!!" -> yay! +favs!). there was a stamp after the recent update that read "v7 SUX!" but the artist's comment was that he liked it; he obviously knew what would get more hits.

. that fire-swinging guy - the animations are neat but that guy just screams dweeb to me.

I'm adding to this as they occur to me.

Also something that annoys me: you see a very promising thumbnail but when you click on it the deviation is branded with that hideous dA watermark. I understand people want to protect their work, but that watermark ruins images, I can't appreciate the art through it. Don't be lazy, make your own (less intrusive) watermark and put your own name, why give dA credit anyway?

In case aaaaanyone was wondering.. I've been in S-E Asia for the last nearly 3 months.

i've finally gotten around to stitching several panos from my snowboarding trip to Davos Switzerland, and amazingly enough, i deem a whole 7 of them to be dA worthy! i think they turned out quite well considering they were taken with a rather crappy Olympus waterproof compact camera..
